Cherie
Hong Kong 1984
Directed by Patrick Tam.

Utterly charming romantic comedy showcasing one of the most popular stars of the early eighties, Cherie Cheung. I've never really gotten the appeal too much, but here she radiantly beautiful and puts in a good performance as well, so consider me moved over into the "fan" category. Cherie is an aerobics instructor pursued by an rich older man (played by the great director Chu Yuan!) who will stop at nothing to have her. But it is no use, she has fallen for an "artiste" (Tony Leung Kar-Fei) who desires her as his model and lover -- but not wife. Both men treat her as an object, not a person, while her emotions run on a roller coaster until she finally gets wise. Chu Yuan's attempts to woo her are sometimes funny and sometimes endearing, while Cherie's romance with Tony Leung is very hot. Poor Tony spends a lot of the film nude and in various compromising positions.
