Dream and Desire
Hong Kong 2003
Directed by Bosco Lam.

A shot on video production set in Sai Kung, set at the same waterfront restaurant that has been home to a great many low budget productions already in recent years, including Cop Unbowed, Love is Butterfly, and who knows what else. In each case, the location is far better than the production. Eric Kot is Jesus, the owner of the restaurant, Sam Lee his buddy, and his son, Jesse, is played by the cute little boy that has been making the rounds in Hong Kong films recently. No one ever appears to actually eat there. Instead a group of friends hang out and pair off as they learn life and love lessons. Among the more painful is the story of Tiffany Lee's character, who no longer speaks after her parents died in a car wreck. The cast is rounded out by a bunch of pop star wanna-be's like the new "E-kids," whose appearance I have already forgotten and whose talent was never in evidence. Tension is supplied in the second half by the boy, who runs off, and Eric Kot, who decides to go surfing in a tsunami.
