Forever and Ever
Hong Kong 2001
Directed by Raymond To.

What the ---? A Hong Kong movie which approaches the topic of AIDS with sensitivity and sincerity? Well I never thought I'd see the day. Chris Lee plays Fu, a young man with hemophilia who gets a transfusion of AIDS-infected blood and slowly dies. He finds his God given purpose on life is writing about his condition, so that others may benefit. Based on a true story, though given the usual usage of AIDS in Hong Kong movies as a cheap gay joke, I can only assume not many people read his writing. Sylvia Chang turns in a credible performance as his steadfast and religious mother, while Josie Ho struggles to create a real moment in her role as an HIV positive woman and comes up empty. Although this sensitive approach must be something of a watershed in Hong Kong cinema, it's nothing I haven't avoided watching dozens of times before here in the States, and this weepy melodrama offers nothing fresh and never strays from its tired formula.

I beg to differ. This show is excellent, and the storyline is strong and true to the heart. The actors brought the characters to life with powerful performances.

If an individual mistakes the heart of this film as cheap melodrama, than that person might wish to reconsider his or her own.

Perhaps the feelings that this movie invokes in a person are uncomfortable, showing how strong we all should really be.

And there are religious sentiments of the characters that could cause discomfort. But it takes a person who is not remarkably shortsighted to see past the characters' religious beliefs and admire how they drew strength to carry on with their lives.

I agree with what Misao has said out. this movie teaches us to be strong in life and be grateful for what we have now.

what you have wrote above is simply rubbish. either you are just some heartless person who laughed at the movie or someone who has no feelings.

btw, please. IMAGINE urself having aids. somehow, i dont think you will be as strong as the guy potrayed in the film.

you will probably wished you died earlier. i'm sorry, i just cant stand your comment of the movie.
