Irresistible Piggies
Hong Kong 2002
Directed by Lo Kim Wah.

While part of the appeal of HK movies is their often insensitive nature, being politically incorrect is not enough to make a successful picture. Written and produced by Wong Jing, the avatar of adolescence, Irresistible Piggies concerns four homely women who band together because they have no one else. When the beautiful woman at work connives to get them fired, they decide to spare no expense to make themselves beautiful, and take their revenge. Even though most of the women seemed to have already found men who love them just the way they were, this is brushed aside in the rush for makeovers. Like last year's LOVE ON A DIET, you may fall in love when you're homely, but you still won't be worth a damn until you're slim and beautiful. Shooky Kwan, Kelly Lin, Michelle Reis, Karen Mok, Stephen Fung, Alex To, and Jordan Chan have all been in better films than this.
