Itchy Heart
Hong Kong 2004
Directed by Matt Chow Hoi Kwong.

Lau Ching-Wan is a married man, but seven years on he's got the itch and when his wife leaves town he hooks up with his old girlfriend (Carina Lau) and a sweet little young number (Cherrie Ying). His wife is a non-character, with barely a line of dialog, so there's no context as to why he now wants to cheat, and anyway I suppose if we knew more about her we'd feel a bit worse about him going out and trying to fool around. His antics are hilarious, his reminisces with Carina Lau about their love of the movie GREASE (1978, USA), priceless. But then there's the problem of Carina's current boyfriend, a physical therapist (Andy On). Well, it's a problem in the plot, sure, but mainly it's a problem because of the acting. Andy On has done some good, but my god, here it is blatantly obvious that he has spent too much time in the gym and not enough time in acting class. Aside from that the ending is too convenient and the issue of having an affair is never really addressed, humorously or otherwise.

Rating: Marginally Recommended (Marginally Recommended)
