Love Undercover 3
Hong Kong 2006
Directed by Joe Ma.

Miriam Yeung and Daniel Wu didn't come back for the third entry of the LOVE UNDERCOVER franchise, so why should we? Fiona Sit is the Miriam Yeung stand-in, which is basically all she does, unable to bring anything different to her role. The characters are flat and the humor nothing more than being goofy. While occasionally the "anything for a laugh" antics elicit a smile, the comedy can't gain any traction because the actors only serve the jokes, and not the characters, nor the plot, such that there is. As a result, the comedy gets increasingly tired as the movie progresses. Fiona Sit is a new recruit, treated as a daughter by the police squad, led by Hui Shiu Hung and with DJ Sammy and Raymond Wong. They solve a series of difficult cases through alternate methods, such as relaxing after eating Hot Pot instead of rushing around the station working. I've never really loved Joe Ma films, since he never seems to know when his lead actresses have run out of charm, but LOVE UNDERCOVER 3 marks a new low in his filmography.
