Troublesome Night 18
Hong Kong 2003
Directed by Lam Wah Fun.

The series that won't lie down and die is now officially old enough to vote, or enlist in the army, but not yet responsible enough to drink alcohol (at least, such are the laws in the United States. If anyone ever figures that one out, please let me know). It's more likely, come to think of it, that the series is dead, having passed away at number 6, but that viewers, like the main characters, can see dead people. This time out, Michael Tong Man-Lung gets possessed by a child ghost and starts acting like a complete idiot. It's up to the usual gang (Ronnie Cheung, Anita Chan, Helena Law Lan, Simon Loui etc.) to sort things out before he jumps into the lake. Local gangsters Ng Chi-Hung and Baat Leung Gum are also on hand to act tough right until a ghost appears, then hold onto each other looking scared until Law Lan saves the day. As usual, TN18 is shot on digital video, mainly in someone's living room. Michael Tong does a nice job as the possessed, the entry as a whole fairly watchable. But let's face it, if you've watched 18 of these, as I have, putting in one in is like inviting some old friends over for a beer.
