Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust sells 1893: AWFM

I'm very pleased to add another retail vendor to the list of shops that carry 1893: A World's Fair Mystery. I still firmly believe that it is only in phsyical stores that Interactive Fiction can finally reach a wide audience once again.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Preservation Trust's mission is to engage the public in educational and aesthetic experiences to foster an appreciation of architecture, design and the legacy of Frank Lloyd Wright. The Trust is doing great work preserving the Robie House on the south side of Chicago (near the University of Chicago in Hyde Park, close to the site of the 1893 fair), and running tours in Oak Park, out of the Wright Home and Studio.

1893: A World's Fair Mystery is now for sale in the Preservation Trusts gift shops in the Robie House and in the Home & Studio museum in Oak Park. Sales from their shops go toward preserving this wonderful architectural heritage.

Frank Lloyd Wright has some interesting connections to the 1893 World's Fair, which I tried to capture in the game. He was the draftsman for Louis Sullivan at the time, and developed much of his concepts of what would become the "Prairie Style" under his tutelage. Sullivan was a big fan of elaborate ornamental style; one of his classic buildings is the Carson, Pirie, Scott & Co. building on State Street in downtown Chicago -- though Carson's has recently closed, so see it while you can, who knows what will become of it in the future. Sullivan also designed the Fair's Transportation Building, which distinctly ignored the "White City" style of the most of the rest of the buildings at the fair in favor of a brightly colored box with the most ornate entranceway ever conceived.

Frank Lloyd Wright is said to have been heavily inspired in his Prairie Style designs by Japanese buildings -- specifically the Japanese Pavilion on the Wooded Island at the fair. Those with an appreciation of architecture might have already guessed who the "Frank" and "Louie" were who stand near the pavilion and discuss it when you first visit that location in the game...!
